Doug Jones and Greg Hawley are experienced litigators, whose experience and friendship dates back more than 30 years. They are respected by their peers. Doug is a former US Attorney, and was elected by other former U.S. Attorneys to be Treasurer of their association. Greg is a former President of the Birmingham Bar Association, a 4000+ member association, and currently serves as Editor of the Alabama Lawyer, the professional publication of the Alabama State Bar. In short, both Greg and Doug are “lawyers’ lawyers.”
Joining them as a founding partner is Chris Nicholson, former clerk to the Honorable Tom King, Jr., who has worked with Greg since 2007. Combined, they have more than 70 years of experience in state and federal courts.
Doug Jones represents individual, institutional and corporate clients in complex civil and criminal litigation, with particular concentrations in class actions, securities litigation, healthcare litigation, white-collar criminal defense, False Claims Act and whistleblower litigation, environmental litigation and internal and corporate compliance matters. His clients have included pension funds and other institutional investors, high-profile corporate officers and political figures, and a variety of business enterprises in state and federal courts nationwide.
Mr. Hawley is a veteran litigator, having representing defendants in numerous environmental tort, products liability and mass tort class actions. He has represented companies in class actions and individual actions involving soil and groundwater contamination, and other products liability and consumer fraud class actions. He has represented several energy companies to resolve their disputes in Alabama concerning environmental and contract issues arising from the production, storage or transportation of gas and fuels.
Chris Nicholson joined the law firm of Jones & Hawley P.C. as a shareholder. Chris has worked closely with Greg Hawley since 2007, first as an associate and subsequently as a partner at White Arnold & Dowd, after serving as Clerk to the Honorable Tom King, Jr., in the 10th Judicial Circuit of Alabama. He primarily represents clients in complex civil litigation and cases involving environmental torts. He also assists clients in False Claims Act cases, and in responding to government investigations. Chris particularly enjoys working with entrepreneurs and small business owners to address their litigation needs, and he has experience representing clients in disputes involving sales contracts and secured transactions under the Uniform Commercial Code.
